American Civil War Series
"Life in the Federal Army"

A war between states, brothers, and countrymen. There is little in the history of the United States that provokes more curiosity, awe, and mythology than the Civil War. We took our cameras, and followed men of Company C of the 5th Minnesota Volunteers from shortly after they arrived in the south until close to the end of the war. We went with the intention of discovering some basic questions about the causes of the Civil War, but found a deeper and more intriguing tale in the soldiers themselves. Farmers, immigrants, those seeking adventure; each soldier proved a story worthy of series unto themselves. This series shows the bonds of men in war; the terror and boredom of Army life; and the terrible realities of this conflict between Americans that exacted a high price for Union, Abolition, and Justice.
